The Courts series revolved around the themes of genetics; ancestral lifestyles and fantasy; and the influence of modern social and political systems on our connection to place. A playful examination of hard vs soft, perfect vs organic, and new connections vs older buried connections. I wanted to show these abstracted flexible, adaptable systems through the compositions themselves but also in the process of balanced imperfection I used to make the paintings. Most of the works’ process also emphasizes fantasy as a tool for creating new systems and connecting to a more balanced way of living.
